Technology Highlights
Sequoia’s Regenerative Adsorption System
Sequoia’s regenerative adsorption technology is designed to improve quality of distilled lube oil recovered from re-refining processes. By passing the oil through activated bauxite (adsorbent), the system improves oxidation stability, color, and viscosity index of oil, by substantially removing unstable organic compounds, as well as most of metal, phosphorus, silicon, compounds. Further and sulfur compounds from the lube stock are reduced partially. The result is a stable, high quality oil suitable for reuse in premium lubricant, insulating and process oil applications.
Operating Principle:
1. Adsorption Cycle:
- Distilled lube oil flows through activated bauxite.
- Impurities and unstable compounds are adsorbed, improving oil quality.
2. Regeneration Cycle:
- Saturated bauxite is regenerated in-situ by thermal oxidation.
- The adsorbent is restored and reused for the next adsorption cycle.
With multiple columns alternating between adsorption and regeneration modes the system ensures continuous purification with minimal downtime, making the system both robust and environmentally friendly.
Key Features:
- Engineered as skid mounted units for easy installation and operation.
- Indoor or outdoor installation flexibility depending on site requirements.
- Integration with pretreatment or post-treatment units for complete oil recovery systems.
- Capacities up to 25,000 tons/year, ideal for medium scale re-refining plants.
Technical Principle & Operation:
Sequoia’s oil purification solution by bauxite adsorption technology is engineered for capacities up to 25,000 tons per year, making it ideal for medium scale re-refining plants. The process ensures the purification of distilled lube oil into a stable, clear product with improved performance characteristics.
Key technical outcomes include:
- Reduction in sulfur content, helping compliance with environmental standards.
- Increase in viscosity index, enhancing oil performance in an engine or other high temperature services.
- Improved oxidation stability, extending the service life of reclaimed lube oil.
- In situ regeneration of bauxite adsorbent by thermal oxidation, allowing continuous operation with minimal downtime.
This combination of adsorption and regeneration cycles delivers a cost effective solution for
industrial oil recovery, while maintaining consistent product quality.

Operational Economics & Efficiency:
Sequoia’s oil purification by bauxite adsorption system is designed to deliver cost-effective performance with minimal operating requirements.
Key Highlights:
- Variable operating cost: $ 10-25 per m³ ($ 0.03-0.10 per gallon) of oil covering Utilities and Chemicals.
- Low manpower requirement: One operator per shift ensures efficient plant operation.
- Compact outline: An adsorption plant with a capacity of 10,000 m³/year (≈ 2.5 million gallons/year) fits within 40 m² (≈ 450 ft²), making it ideal for space constrained facilities.
This combination of low operating cost, minimal labour, and compact design makes Sequoia’s technology an environmental and economical choice for small to medium scale re-refining plants.
