Hydrotreater Proven at Small Scale and Expanded Skillfully
Replacing a fixed-bed clay process, a Sequoia hydrotreater has produced water-white Group II+ base oil since 2009, and was expanded to more than double its capacity in 2012.
Bango Refining of Fallon, Nevada (USA) was using a fixed-bed clay process for upgrading distillates recovered from used oil. The product had poor colour and poor oxidation stability, and there was no control over the reduction of sulfur in the final products.
From March 2009, with the Sequoia-supplied hydrotreater, Bango Refining started making a Group II+ base oil product that is “water white”.
Expansion in 2012
In 2012, the small hydrotreater was expanded to more than double its capacity. Sequoia carefully checked every piece of equipment, every line and every instrument to make this expansion a success at minimum cost and with little downtime.
